Historic Retreat was officially opened on the 7th March 2005 by the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory the Honorable Clare Martin.

The Chief Minister also acknowledged that, "it is the first time in the Northern Territorys history that private developers have pursued this type of accommodation, heritage listed it and subsequently turned it into a business and tourism venture".

Historic Retreat recieved it's first award in December 2005 for "Outstanding Commitment to Heritage Restortation" under the "Territory Tidy Town" banner...

In May 2006 the co-owners, in consultation with the office for the Federal Minister for heritage and environment initiated dialog with respect to the possibility of listing "The mine Manager's Reseidence" (Historic Retreat) on the "National Heritage register"...
