Public Transport

The Public Transport Division provides a safe and convenient public bus transport service for locals as well as travellers to the Top End.

The network of services operate between three main interchanges located in Darwin City, Casuarina and Palmerston. Convenient services for travellers

Route 1 - Casuarina to Casuarina (Tiwi, Brinkin, Hospital, Nakara) 
Circular route with access to Charles Darwin University, Casuarina Beach and Darwin Hospital.

Route 4 - Darwin to Casuarina - Scenic Route (Fannie Bay, Nightcliff, Casuarina)
Travelling from Darwin to Casuarina Interchange, this route accesses the coastal tourist attractions including the Casino, Mindil Beach, NT Museum & Art Gallery, Darwin Sailing Club, Fannie Bay Gaol, entrance to East Point Reserve, Nightcliff & Rapid Creek Shopping Villages and Casuarina.

Route 10 - Darwin to Casuarina - Direct Route (Parap, Ludmilla, Alawa, Casuarina)
This is the more direct route between Darwin and Casuarina Interchanges, travelling along the Stuart Highway, into Bagot Road and along Trower Road.

Route 5 - Darwin to Casuarina - Industrial Route (Winnellie, Berrimah, Crocodylus Park, Moil, Marrara Sporting Complex, Darwin Airport, Casuarina)
Travelling enroute to Casuarina Interchange through the industrial areas of Winnellie and Berrimah, along McMillans Road past Marrara Sporting Complex and the Darwin International Airport. From Monday to Friday some services also include Crocodylus Park.

Route 9 - Casuarina to Palmerston - (Leanyer Recreational Park, Holmes Jungle Nature Park, Crocodylus Park, Karama, Berrimah, Palmerston)
If you wish to travel from Casuarina Interchange to Palmerston Interchange passing Leanyer Recreational Park, Holmes Jungle Nature Park, and Crocodylus Park then this service is the suggested route.

Route 8 - Darwin to Palmerston - (Darwin, Australian Aviation Heritage Centre, Darwin Showgrounds, Berrimah, Robbie Robins Reserve, Palmerston)
This route is a direct service to Palmerston Interchange passing the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre, Darwin Showgrounds and Robbie Robins Reserve.

Route 14 - Darwin to Darwin - (Darwin, Cullen Bay, Darwin Convention Centre)
This route runs from the Darwin Interchange to Cullen Bay Ferry Terminal and back through the city to the Convention Centre and Darwin Waterfront returning back to the Darwin Interchange. Connects to the Mandorah Ferry several times a day at the Ferry Terminal.

Route 14a - Darwin to Darwin - (Darwin, Bayview Haven, Tipperary Waters)
This route runs from the Darwin Interchange to Bayview Haven, Tipperary Waters, through Frances Bay Marina to Darwin Convention Centre and Darwin Waterfront and back to Darwin.

Fare Structure

Tickets can be purchased from any of the three Interchanges Darwin, Casuarina and Palmerston. Adult and concession single trip tickets can be purchased when boarding the bus – please try to ensure you have the correct fare as drivers carry limited change.

Adult: $2.00

An adult fare entitles passengers to unlimited bus travel for three (3) hours on any scheduled public bus service in Darwin and Alice Springs. An Adult fare ticket can be purchased on the bus and at Interchanges. The ticket is validated by the driver on board the bus. The bus ticket is valid for (3) three hours from the time of validation.

Concession: $0.50

A concession fare is available to Health Care Card holders. A concession fare ticket entitles passengers to unlimited bus travel for (3) hours on any scheduled public bus service in Darwin and Alice Springs. A Concession ticket can be purchased on the bus. The ticket is validated by the driver on board the bus. The ticket is valid for (3) hours from the time of validation.

Show&Go Daily: $5.00

A Show&Go daily ticket provides unlimited bus travel on any scheduled public bus service in Darwin and Alice Springs. The bus ticket is valid from the first scheduled bus service to the last scheduled bus service on the day of validation.

A Show&Go daily can be purchased on the bus and at the Darwin, Casuarina and Palmerston bus interchanges. The ticket is validated by the driver on board the bus.

Show&Go Weekly: $15.00 (25% discount)

A Show&Go weekly ticket provides unlimited bus travel on scheduled public bus services in Darwin and Alice Springs. The bus ticket is valid from the first scheduled bus service on Monday through to the last scheduled bus service on Sunday for the week of validation.

This bus ticket can be purchased at the Darwin, Casuarina and Palmerston bus interchanges and at the Alice Springs Airport Shuttle Shop, Gregory Terrace in Alice Springs.

These tickets will be validated at the Interchange or Shuttle Shop with the week of travel. Week begins Monday and ends Sunday in Darwin and Monday to Saturday in Alice Springs.

The Show&Go weekly bus ticket provides best value for money with a 25% discount applied in comparison to equal adult fares.

Adult 10 Book: $18.00 (10% discount)

The book of ten (10) adult tickets provides passengers that travel less frequently the ability to travel at their convenience, whilst receiving a 10% discount. These tickets can only be purchased from all bus interchanges in Darwin and at the Airport Shuttle Shop, Gregory Terrace in Alice Springs.

Passengers are to present their pre-paid adult tickets to the driver on board the bus for validation.

Multiple Ticket Purchases

When the Interchanges are closed or for your convenience more than one Adult and Concession tickets can be purchased from the bus drivers on entry. Only the ticket required for travel needs to be stamped.

Travel Concessions

Health Care (concession fare)

Available to persons presenting a valid Health Care Card. All persons nominated on the Health Care Card are entitled to a concession fare.

Free Travel

Children

Children under 5 years of age travel for free.

Students

The Northern Territory Government's FREE Bus Travel Package is providing free bus travel seven days a week for Territory students (and visiting Australian students) on the Territory's school and public bus network from Tuesday 27 January 2009. The Northern Territory is the first jurisdiction in Australia to provide full free public bus travel for students, from primary school through to University students.

For free bus travel:
Primary school students do not need to provide ID.
Middle school students should present their Student ID Card to the driver if available.
Senior school students MUST present their Student ID Card to the driver.
University students MUST present their Student ID Card (part-time and full-time) to the driver.
International Student Cards are not accepted.
School excursion travel is excluded.

Vision Impaired

A person presenting a vision impaired travel pass is entitled to free travel.

Veterans’ Affairs ‘Gold’ Cards

A person presenting any Veterans’ Affairs ‘Gold Card’ is entitled to free travel.

Adult Complimentary Passes

A person presenting a complimentary bus pass, issued by the Public Transport Division is entitled to travel on any scheduled public bus service in Darwin and Alice Springs without paying any additional money. The complimentary bus pass cannot be used for multiple passengers, only the holder of the complimentary bus pass is eligible to travel.
