Fannie Bay Jail
Fannie Bay Jail depicts the early Territory penal system and was in use until 1979 when Berrimah Jail was commissioned . Take a look inside a cell and see the conditions the prisoners of yesterday had to endure.
The earliest building in fannie bay Jail was opened in 1883 and the 31 prisoners who had been held in a one room lock up in Mitchell Street Darwin, and their guards, became the Jails first residents.
Cell blocks A and B comprised 16 bare cells, each 3m squre and fitted with ringbolts and restraining chains.
These Heritages Properties managed by the museum and art gallery of the Northen Territory, represent the extreme opposite ends of Darwin social life in the past.
Open Days , 10:00am to 3:00pm
Free of charge
Closed for Good Friday/Christmas Day/Boxing day/New Years Day until January 2nd .
Well worth a vist.

Feathers Sanctuary
Feathers Sanctuary is a unique concept of combining first class bed and breakfast accommodation with the beauty of our native wildlife; it is truly the natural place to stay.
The purpose of keeping birds at Feathers Sanctuary is to breed some of the rarer species held in the collection. Many of the birds being held in the Sanctuary are not common in aviculture and we will continue to add species.
Please feel free to enjoy the wildlife within the boundaries of the Sanctuary.
The landscape has been developed with the purpose of attracting the native bird life that abounds in the area. It will continue to be enhanced with that purpose in mind.
Feathers Sanctuary bed and breakfast provides a tranquil environment with our huts located within the expansive garden settings. Enabling you to enjoy a quiet drink while relaxing on the patio and taking in the views of the surrounding grounds. See if you can spot the Bustards (plains turkeys) or the pademelon wallabies.

Friends of the North Australia Railway
The Friends of the North Australian Railway at Adelaide River was formed in 2001 to preserve part of the alignment of the former narrow gauge North Australian Railway between Adelaide River and Snake Creek. The Railway hopes to ultimately operate a heritage train to that destination, a distance of two miles.
Adelaide River Township is located on the main north south road, the Stuart Highway and is 72 miles ( 112 km ) south of Darwin. The location of the railway's headquarters is in the historic railway precinct at Adelaide River where the society has been restoring the original buildings and infrastructure. The new standard gauge railway line to Darwin adjoins the historic narrow gauge line and at one stage it was proposed to utilise that portion of the narrow gauge alignment for the modern railway. However it was possible to re-arrange the layout to save some of the original railway yard layout and much work is going on to restore the ambience of the historic precinct.

Our geographical isolation has lead to some of the most unique flora and fauna in the world. From bounding kangaroos to the cuddly koalas, from the blazing colours of the tropical fish to the vibrancy of the native parrots, one gets a feeling mother-nature certainly has a sense of humour.

Hanuman Thai Restaurant
This is the first place we head for when we arrive in Darwin. In a city of confused cuisines this establishment knows exactly what it is trying to do and it delivers.
If you have dined at the Isthmus of Kra or Monsoon in Melbourne then you will know what to expect.
If you want to enjoy the full experience here, it is compulsory to order the Hanuman Oysters. These are served in the trademark earthenware plates with little lids covering the oysters. They are delicious.
The roasted red duck curry cooked with coconut, sweet basil and kaffir lime is also a must. In the past we have enjoyed the baby barramundi baked in banana leaves, however on our most recent visit wild barramundi was grilled and served with a very soupy sauce of tamarind and ginger. The slight tartness of the sauce was perfect with the fish. A dish of pork belly had been stewed slowly with star anise and cinnamon. This was packed with flavour, meltingly tender and a bargain at the price. Some steamed rice and a dish

It's Australian
Work on the Darwin Convention and Exhibition Centre is well under way, with the first pour of the concrete supports at the site, signalling the start of building construction.
With the earthworks completed, more than 400 steel reinforced concrete piles will support the large basement slab and the 4000 square metre building. The supports are being driven by Frankipile Australia which uses the quietest system available in this country.
Chief Minister Clare Martin said the sea wall also continues to stretch across the harbour, with earthworks placed along 340 metres of what will be a 650 metre structure. "When complete, in September 2006, the sea wall will be the equivalent of three storeys high (from the sea bed) and up to 70 metres wide at its base," Ms Martin said.
The sea wall, which is being constructed by Macmahon NT, will create a four hectare permanent water body for water-based recreation activities. It will also provide for a walking trail along the length o

The Jatbula Trail commences at Katherine Gorge and culminates at Edith Falls, following the Edith Escarpment overlooking the Seventeen Mile Valley. Winding up and down through ever-changing environments and over undulating terrain, it takes around five days to fully experience the Jatbula Trail.
There are designated campsites at Biddlecombe Falls, Crystal Falls, 17 Mile Falls, Edith River Crossing, Sandy Camp Pool and Sweetwater Pool, each with natural swimming holes, waterfalls or wide rivers in which to cool off. Ideally, walkers should trek from first light until about 2.00pm, spending the remainder of the afternoon relaxing by a waterfall, swimming in a crystal clear waterhole or just gazing at the beautiful colours of the sheer sandstone cliffs in the afternoon lig

Marksie learnt his bush skills in the Mallee from his grandfather who was trapping rabbits for a living. Fried, fricasseed, roasted, potted, steamed, cooked over coals on a shovel, any way you could think of, underground mutton was served.
Marksie's grandmother was so worried about the lack of variety in the family diet that once a month she cooked a camp oven full of ferret stew - to rid their system of the rabbit build up - a recipe which to this day remains a treasured family secret.
These tours run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays (April - October)

Quanxi is a Chinese word that captures a way of doing business based on relationships, networks and trust.
The Indonesian word hubungan also captures the complexity, meaning communication, connections and relationships.
In English, where we ‘mean what we say’, communication has come to mean a one way flow of information instead of a two-way exchange of meaning that creates relationships.

Nitmiluk National Park (Katherine Gorge)
Just 32 kms from the town centre, the gorge system is the major natural attraction in the area - a visitor’s delight - 180,000 hectares of natural wonder. There are 13 gorges in the system, carved out of the rock by torrential summer rains over millenia. Five of the gorges are readily accessible by organised tour and boat cruise, alternatively the visitor can hire a canoe, or take a trek.
Commercially operated two, four and eight hour cruises are available, and the recently introduced breakfast and sunset dinner cruises have proved a popular attraction. Helicopter scenic flights are also available.
Within the gorge system are many fine examples of Aboriginal rock paintings many thousands of years old. These art sites are amongst the most popular attractions of Nitmiluk National Park.

Perrys on the Daly
Dick Perry's association with the Northern Territory's Fishing tourism dates back to the early 1980's. As part of a successful fishing tackle business (est.1976) and a marine dealership in Sydney, Dick developed PERRYS BARRAMUNDI FISHING SAFARIS'.
Perry's organized and conducted Coach Fishing Safaris to the Gulf, Northern Territory and Kimberleys to fish for barramundi and held one of the first commercial tour-operators license to fish for Barramundi in World Heritage Area, Kakadu N.T.
As a result of this long attachment to the NT and fishing tourism, "PERRY'S ON THE DALY P/L" was established. The opportunity to purchase 1000 acres right on the banks of the Daly River in 1993, was too good to miss as Dick and Carol had formed a love of the area and the "Mighty Daly River".
Facilities include:
Fishing Tackle and Gift Shop
Dinghy hire
Fishing Rod and Reel hire and repair service

This situation allows for excellent trials of current and new models on Australias Premier Sportfish, the magnificent Barramundi.
Barramundi are a recreational fishermans dream as they are hard fighting fish that will leap clear of the water many times during a capture, can exist in fresh or saltwater and often travel between the two, will readily take lures both Hard bodied and Soft bodied, and have excellent eating qualities.
Barramundi can reach a size of up to 50 kilos however to capture a 25 kilo fish is a fish of a lifetime and any angler that has scored such a fish, has lifetime memories to treasure.
