Description

Culture – Enterprise – Opportunity.

Situated in the historical Lyons Cottage along the Esplanade, Aboriginal Bush Traders is fast becoming one of Darwin’s most unique attractions. A retail store selling authentic Indigenous products, ABT also houses a modern bush tucker cafe and function facilities.

Aboriginal Bush Traders is 100% not-for-profit and provides support to Indigenous people wanting to engage in economic activities in a sustainable way.

Our retail store sells authentic products from artists and community art centres from across the Top End including: sculpture, paintings on canvas, carvings, clothing, weavings, drawings, music, books and jewellery.

Aboriginal Bush Traders, located in Lyon’s Cottage, is a blend of both Indigenous and European history. Built in 1925, Lyon’s Cottage was Darwin's first stone residence and formerly housed the British Australian Telegraph Company (which laid a submarine cable between Australia and Java). At different times it became the residence of both the mayor of Darwin and the US Army. Lyon’s Cottage is one of the few historical buildings to survive the WWII bombing of Darwin and Cyclone Tracey.

Aboriginal Bush Traders is open 9am - 4pm Mon - Fri, 9am - 3pm Sat & Sun (Cafe open Mon - Sat from 7.30am - 3 pm)
