Day 1: Darwin to Kakadu National Park Approximately 220km east of Darwin lies one of Australia s best-known treasures, Kakadu National Park. World Heritage listed for its wealth of cultural attributes and abundance of wildlife, Kakadu is a must on any visit to the Top End. Leaving Darwin in the morning, we travel the Arnhem Highway across the Adelaide River Plains, which teem with wonderful birdlife. Stop at Nourlangie Rock where your Driver/Guide will lead a walk to view ancient Aboriginal rock art. After lunch, we join our local guide for a cruise on the famous Yellow Water Billabong. Search for saltwater crocodiles and photograph the colourful birds this region is renowned for. Finally visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre and view the informative displays depicting the traditions of the Aboriginal people in Kakadu. We then drive to our campsite at Gunlom just in time to see the vibrant colours of the tropical sunset before camping out under the star filled night sky. (LD) Day 2: Kakadu to Katherine Gorge As the sun rises over Kakadu we climb to the top of Gunlom Falls where you will be rewarded with stunning views of the southern ranges, then cool down after the climb with a refreshing morning dip above and below the waterfall. Tonight we will be camping at the Mataranka pub, conveniently situated next to the therapeutic mineral rich hot springs, where we can sooth our bodies for an evening of pure relaxation.
