About the role

The purpose of this specialised role is to connect members with professional conference organisers and event planners, predominately on an intra-Territory level. This role also supports the Association’s relationship with NT Business Events, NT Major Events and other major partners. You are passionate about the valuable input business events, major events and festivals have for the visitor economy and cultural benefits of the Top End community. The ideal candidate has strong experience in business event development for meetings, conferencing, incentives, seasonal events and festivals. 

This role has a predominately local perspective working across the Top End developing opportunities by connecting small to large members with contacts planning events for meetings, team building, staff collaboration and client incentive rewards. The Top End has numerous NT based corporates, industry associations, government agencies and corporations all regularly looking at suitable venues for their event. Providing constant content to the TTE marketing team is an important ongoing aspect of the position. 

Further to connecting TTE members with local event planners, this role plays a significant industry development role in bettering the membership’s capacity to better engage and deliver unique event solutions. Working closely with NT Business Events and NT Major Events, this role will represent the Association initially to introduced proposed and confirmed event planners to connect members via a bespoke TTE digital platform offering or direct with planners, delegates or attendees. 

The role will also have an active role in delivering leads for membership and corporate partnerships for TTE, as well as delivering accreditation and business enterprise as part of the Association’s Partnerships & Industry Development Team. The ability to maintain a regular travel program around the Top End region, with some interstate travel is an essential requirement of this role.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

      • Source event-related revenue opportunities for members at a local level and in partnership with NT Business Events (NTBE) and NT Major Events (NTMEC) and other event-related organisations; 
      • Develop and maintain an evolving database of event capable member venues across the Top End; 
      • Identify and evolve local event planner contacts, connecting leads with members and supporting conversion;
      • Develop and maintain effective relationships with local conference organiser, PCO's, venue suppliers and relevant tourism products and experiences;
      • Establish and develop relationships with the region’s major event-related members to identify the gaps where the Association can better support within its ability;
      • Develop a thorough understanding of the region’s suppliers in venues, events spaces and related services to deliver an ongoing range of options to local organisers;
      • At the invitation of NTBE and NTMEC work collaboratively on converting new and prospective clients for the Top End;
      • Develop new local leads, qualify prospective leads to connect with members;
      • Coordinate initial pre and post-conference leads with the Travel and Visitor Information Centre leadership team to establish FIT booking opportunities;
      • Work closely with the Manager – Partnerships & Industry Development and Membership Manager to deliver accreditation, star rating and business enterprise programs;
      • Develop and deliver the Business Event content of TTE’s annual Tourism Enhancement Program; 
      • Identify member and partner business event needs sector across the Top End;
      • Work closely with NTBE as TTE’s key contact for all Darwin and Top End famil visits;
      • Provide introductory support when required for inspections of member venues, products and experiences with potential local event planners;
      • Contribute to marketing and communications plans for business events;
      • Coordinate TTE’s membership sectorial group for Business Events as a forum to evolve the Association’s local role, complementary to the activities of NTBE, NTMEC and other partnerships;
      • Additional duties as required;

Specific Skill Requirements

  • Proven experience and understanding of business events, major events and festivals:
  • Ability to respond quickly leads and coordinate in a transparent manner with suitable member venues, products or experiences;
  • Ability to collaboratively build and maintain strategic relationships; 
  • Work with regional understanding developing relationships across the Top end; 
  • Passion for events and commitment to delivering a high level of customer service;
  • Ability to generate creative proposals and innovative concepts for business event planners;
  • Develop and maintain appropriate processes, administrative systems and procedural standards;
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to gain influence and present across all organisational levels;
  • Strong understanding of business and the ability to effectively connect with member businesses to assist in their development, then reporting and subsequent acquittal;
  • Develop business event strategy with Manager – Partnerships & Industry Development;

  • You will be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and possess a strong business acumen;
  • A strong focus on planning and execution, and be highly organised;
  • Experience in a similar role within a tourism business or association (3+ years);
  • Commercial acumen and ability to understand the Association’s not-for-profit model and its role with current and potential stakeholders;
  • Monitor market trends, competitors and current/potential partners;
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required;
  • The ability to travel Intra-Territory is essential; 
  • Must have a current NT Drivers Licence and able to drive independently;
