Navy Week in the NT

8th August

Get down to Mindil Beach by 6pm on Thursday, 8 August to watch a spectacular military ceremony rarely performed in public.
Conducted by the Royal Australian Navy Band and HMAS Coonawarra, the ceremony will honour the sacrifices of servicemen and women past and present and conclude with a volley of blank gunshots.

10 August

Then bring the family to Darwin city at 10am on Saturday, 10 August to cheer on HMAS Coonawarra as more than 100 Officers and Sailors march on Knuckey Street to exercise their Freedom of Entry.

The important tradition began in medieval times when a city would show its trust in a group of men-at-arms by allowing them to enter their walls without being disarmed.

Both events are part of Navy Week in the NT, which runs from 5-10 August and thanks the NT community for its ongoing support to Navy.
