Inspired by the luxury camps of Africa, this 10 room exclusive lodge offers a prolific wildlife experience with exclusive access to a spectacular 300km² property. Located on the coastal floodplains of the Mary River close to Kakadu National Park, Bamurru’s emphasis is on exposing you to one of the most significant ecosystems in Australia. The very design of the ten safari bungalows allows you to watch the parade of wildlife emerge to feed on the floodplain from the comfort of your bed! The alarm clock in the morning is the call of Magpie Geese and Whistling Kites and the orange light of dawn spreading across the floodplain.

Map & Directions

For those guests looking for a scenic arrival to Bamurru Plains, we can arrange for a scenic flight from the General Aviation Terminal at Darwin Airport. From the sensation of lift-off, to the excitement of soaring above the twists and turns of the Adelaide River, your charter flight to Bamurru Plains is a unique and spectacular 30 minute experience. Spot wildlife from your window as you hug the coastline of the azure blue Arafura Sea while enjoying a bird’s eye view of Australia’s very own Okavango before landing at our private airstrip. A Bamurru field guide will be waiting to drive you 20 minutes through the savannah bush to the Safari Lodge where a refreshing native-inspired tonic will have you settled in and ready to explore.

Bamurru Plains is a 3 hour drive from Darwin, the first hour and three quarters is on sealed tarmac road, the last hour and a quarter are on unsealed public and station roads. The drive from Jabiru in Kakadu National Park will take 2½ hours, again part unsealed roads. While a 4WD is not always necessary to reach us, many insurance companies will not cover 2WD vehicles when going on unsealed roads. You’ll be met by a safari guide at our main gate who will escort your vehicle on to the property where it will remain safely parked for the remainder of your stay. You will not drive all the way into the safari lodge. As the roads are not signposted or found on google maps, we are not always easily found. Quite literally, off the beaten track
