It is a raw and honest work that allows the vulnerability of the human heart to shine through, because that is at the core of each leap into love… finding the strength to be vulnerable.
The world of Frankie & Brian was created to champion human connection and celebrate the emotions we feel as we search for our first love. It is, as with all SLIDE works, full of humour and hurdles, moments of sorrow coupled with dizzying layers of elation. Will Frankie and Brian fall in love? Of course they will, we want that for them, very much.
Frankie is dreading the graduation dance, locked in her room, biting her nails, praying for a sudden and serious illness, but her mum is insistent.
For the past two weeks, Brian’s been sprawled on the floor, managing an epic panic attack.
“What if it’s super awkward? What if no one talks to me? What if my dress malfunctions? Worse, what if I throw up?” Frankie shouts through the door.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Frankie. You will love it,” her mum replied.
Brian yelled from his bedroom floor, “What if I… ?”
“Stop right there, sunshine,” his mum interjected. “Here’s a thought - what if you fall in love?
Brian paused, considering her words, “I doubt that very much.”
Will Frankie and Brian fall in love? Of course they will, we want that for them, very much.
